Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe I heard Levon “Air Bud” Kendall getting cheers tonight?
Levon showed what should be expected on a senior night. He got fired up and gave us a hell of a night. He was a single rebound short of a double-double. He missed only one shot. He got 12 points. He played for 30 minutes. He showed why he is an important part of this team.
Hats off as well to Doyle for getting a bucket in his only shot at the end of the game. I can imagine he was feeling the pressure of thousands of fans chanting his name with fewer than 60 seconds on the clock, but he managed to get it done.
Of course, Aaron got another double-double. It looked like he was doing much better with the ankle than he did at Georgetown. Hopefully this weekend he can put up another double-double before pointing his finger at the Marquette student section.
I hope that Antonio Graves was not disappointed with his night. He didn’t get the double-figures that Aaron and Levon did, but he had a quality game tonight. His shots might not have been going in, but he put up an impressive 6 assists. When the shots aren’t there, getting it to other guys who are scoring is just as important. He has nothing to hang his head about tonight.
With five players on the team ending in double-digits tonight, there were lots of bright spots. Bouncing back from the awful shooting this past weekend, the Panthers shot over 60% and hit 50% from 3. That is what we have been missing lately.
Levance ended up with a game-high 14 points, all coming after half-time. That is what is going to be clutch in March. When the game is on the line, that sort of Carl Krauser-esque momentum will be huge.
I’m glad to see Pitt finally shake its relative funk of the past few games, and finally break that disappointing run of senior night losses. Let’s ride this surge into this weekend and ruin Marquette’s GameDay.
